In 2016, industry operators will spend about $0.28 on capital for every dollar spent on labour, up from $0.26 in 2011. Depreciation expenses amount to 9.1% of revenue for car wash operators. Over the past five years, capital investment has increased with increasing adoption of technology such as automated car washes and automatic payment terminals. The cost of maintenance can be very high, particularly for automatic car washing bays.
