Asphalt paving products are costly to transport, which provides companies with an incentive to be located near their major markets. An estimated 90.5% of industry establishments are concentrated in the four most populous provinces in Canada. The Northwest Territories do not contain any asphalt manufacturing facilities.
Quebec and Ontario, the two most populous provinces, have 36.2% and 35.5% of industry establishments, respectively. The high population results in greater demand for housing, roads, highway and other infrastructure facilities.
